President Lenín Moreno thanks Quito’s Mayor for supporting referendum

The president also reiterated his government’s commitment to support the capital with infrastructure works, especially the subway project.

Guayaquil, Dec 7 (Andes).- During a formal sitting in honor of Quito’s 483rd foundation anniversary, President Lenin Moreno thanked the city’s Mayor Mauricio Rodas for supporting the referendum.

“I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to thank the Mayor and citizens for supporting the referendum. You must have the right to be part of the big decisions,” said Moreno.

On this matter, Moreno continued talking about the content of the questions. He asked citizens in Quito to “use your voice to fight against corruption, against irresponsible mining exploitation and against perpetuity of power.”

The president also reiterated his government’s commitment to support the capital with infrastructure works, especially the subway project.

On this matter, he explained that 4,6 billion dollars will be allocated in 2018 to meet the capital’s needs.

During his intervention, the president highlighted the benefits of talks held with different sectors of society.

On this matter, he called on citizens to remain united and to encourage Municipalities to support his government plan called ‘Toda una Vida.’

For his part, Mayor Rodas highlighted the progress made in works developed under his administration, mainly the subway which will benefit more than 400,000 people daily.

Rodas also committed to supporting the referendum. “Count on me every time you need my disinterested support (…) Mr. President do not hesitate in asking the country as many times as necessary,” said the Mayor.

Finally, he said that once the referendum process is concluded, he will support activities to boost the country’s economy.
