Patricio Zambrano, Ecuadorian minister of Defense and head of the delegation, highlighted the importance of respecting other country’s sovereignty.

Quito, March 7 (Andes). – During its participation at the 15th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), the Ecuadorian government expressed its hopes for the participation of Venezuela in the upcoming Summit to take place in Lima since “it is a place where we can all express our ideas.”

During his intervention, Patricio Zambrano, minister of Defense and head of the Ecuadorian delegation, recalled the importance of respecting other country’s sovereignty and pleaded for Venezuela’s participation in the upcoming presidential meeting.

“The government of Ecuador considers that such Summit must be a meeting point for all members, it must be a place where we can all express our ideas, reach agreements, disagree, debate, make recommendations, but especially, respect each country’s voice,” said Zambrano as he referred to Pedro Pablo Kuczynski’s decision to withdraw his Venezuelan counterpart’s invitation to the Summit of the Americas.

Zambrano stressed out that his country has a constitutional mandate of non-interference in other State’s internal matters. “We’re respecting this principle and as we have repeatedly said, non-interference does not mean indifference since we hope to contribute to solving conflicts through dialogue,” he said.

He added that his government supports constructive interaction and rejects all forms of violence and interference from other countries in Venezuela.

The minister of Defense of the Andean country recalled that Hugo Chavez’s “ideas upgraded Latin America’s feelings with his actions and proved to be a great promoter of Latin America’s interaction.”

“We want to reiterate our commitment to regional integration with ALBA, the Andean Community, with UNASUR (Union of South American Nations), with ECLAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) which are not only alternatives but a need for development,” he stated.

Finally, the Ecuadorian minister of Defense welcomed the agreement reached between the opposition and the Venezuelan government.

“We reject the exclusion of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its President Nicolas Maduro from the eighth Summit of the Americas since we consider that such summit must be a meeting point for all States of the continent and a place where we can all express ideas, reach agreements, disagree and debate respecting our diversity,” stated the Caracas Declaration.
